Today, the Chichester Wildfowl’s Association is a thriving club which manages over 20 miles of coastline in the harbour. Membership not only provides shooting opportunities in the harbour but also inland such as a joint initiative with Kent Wildfowlers in Oxenbridge. In addition to shooting there is a full program of supporting events, ranging from socials to dog training sessions, throughout the year. The current membership is approximately 120 which we expect to grow as we’re actively seeking new members and planning to add to the shooting opportunities available.

Members are currently able to shoot a total of 19 areas covering the west of Thorney Island, Emsworth, some of the west of Hayling Island,  much of Chidham, much of Bosham Channel, Fishbourne, Copperas, and the area from Ichenor to Ellen Nore. We also have access to the coast off Pagham and Brackelsham Bay. With the exception of areas that are owned by the Association all areas are leased on a long term basis giving us security over these areas into the future.

All areas are carefully managed and wardened to prevent over use or misuse  but with such an extensive amount of shooting available there’s plenty of room for everyone. Throughout the year the association has, and continues to, assist local landowners in crop protection and vermin control so there’s the additional opportunity for members to be able to shoot pigeon and rabbits for a change.

Naturally there is a strong social side to the Association with a regular series of events held at the Fishbourne Centre that includes an auction, talks and visits from equipment suppliers. Many members also participate in the wide-ranging activities of the various sub-committees of CWA. These include conservation work both inland and in the harbours, varied educational programmes, attending country shows, dog training sessions and harbour wardening.
